NHL News: NHL Plans To Change End Of Season Tiebreakers

It’s not a huge change, but it could have a notable impact.

The change would make the first tiebreaker regulation wins plus overtime wins with shootout wins excluded. Currently the first tiebreaker is all wins of any kind. The change is meant to put more emphasis on the first 65 minutes.

Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson proposed the move at the NHL general managers meetings in Florida last March.

The league plans on making the change at the Sept. 14 Board of Governor’s meeting.
