James Wan to Tackle Nightfall

News, Projects

Before you say “not another vampire movie,” remember that the trend will die out sooner rather than later. After THR had a story on how vampires bring $7 billion to the Hollywood economy, announcements for new bloodsucker projects was to be expected.

The latest is reported by Deadline. James Wan (Saw) has signed on to direct Nightfall for Platinum Studios.

The original graphic novel, published in 2007, was written and created by Scott O. Brown with art by Ferran Xalabarder. The novel deals with a conservative Texan, David Paxton, who winds up in a prison run by vampires.

“The minute I heard the concept, I was in,” Wan said. “Reading the graphic novel cemented that. Like Saw, it’s a simple concept that, if executed properly, will be so cool.”

Currently, Platinum Studios is in production on Cowboys and Aliens, also based on a graphic novel series, an interplanetary shoot-em-up that stars Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. They are also in post production on the indie film Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night.

Wan’s latest film, Insidious, plays in the Midnight Madness program at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival.
