Eddie Alvarez to face Roger Huerta at Bellator 33

News

Bellator has confirmed that its lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez will face Sports Illustrated coverstar Roger Huerta on October 21st in Philadelphia. This will be a non-title fight to bridge the gap in Alvarez’s schedule caused by number one contender Pat Curran currently being injured. Formerly with the UFC, when Huerta came into Bellator it was expected that he would earn a title shot by winning the organization’s Season Two lightweight tournament. However in a shock result, Huerta lost to Pat Curran at the semi-final stage. With Curran injured, Bellator have moved to give Alvarez the opportunity to face his most high-profile yet in his hometown.
