John Cena on the UFC: “It’s Not Something I’d Want My Children to Watch”

News

Square-jawed WWE superstar John Cena is not a fan of the UFC, telling Boston.com that

“It’s just not something that particularly interests me. UFC is where boxing was years ago, and I was never really into boxing, either. [WWE is] regulated entertainment that’s safe for anyone to enjoy. (The UFC) can be pretty over the top, and it’s not something I’d want my children to watch.””

John Cena’s antipathy towards the UFC is by no means universially shared by his colleagues with the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Bill Goldberg, Dave Batista, Paul Heyman and Jim Ross all being big fans of a sport that has seen pro-wrestlers such as Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley achieve varying degrees of success. His comments should be seen in the context of the rivalry between the two PPV giants, especially as John Cena is seen as somebody very close to WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon.
