NCAA News: Alabama Running Back Mark Ingram Will Miss Tide’s First Game

The defending Heisman Trophy winner has a setback before the season starts.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban announced that RB Mark Ingram underwent arthroscoping knee surgery Tuesday morning and will miss the Tide’s first game against San Jose State.

Ingram hurt his knee late in practice on Monday. Saban said this morning’s minor surgery was successful.

“It was a situation where everyone involved thought it would be better to take care of now, so he would not have any issues with it later in the season,” Saban said.

Ingram will be listed as week-to-week at the start of the season. Alabama would obviously love to have him back in time for the Tide’s Sept. 11 game at home against Penn State.
