Carl Froch vs. Arthur Abraham to be a Super Six Semi-Final and for the WBC Title

News

Talking to BBC Radio Nottingham Carl Froch revealed the future direction of the Super Six in light of the withdrawal of Mikkel Kessler. He announced that the final round of group stage matches has been scrapped, with his fight with Arthur Abraham on October 2nd and the as yet unscheduled bout between Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell now being the semi-finals of super-middleweight tournament. As I wrote last week, this really was the only option left open to Showtime. Froch also said that he expected the tournament final to take place in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

He revealed that the fight with Abraham would be for the WBC Title that Kessler vacated, so giving Froch an immediate chance to win his belt back. As requested by Sauerland, the WBC will give Kessler an opportunity to regain his title upon his return from injury by making him a ‘champion emertus’. However in comments of poor taste, Froch not only said that he doubted Kessler would ever come back to the ring but claimed credit for sending “The Viking Warrior” into retirement.
