Mackie and Bell Joining Worthington On a Ledge

Casting News, News

These two casting announcements seemed to drop one after another – okay, maybe a few hours in between. Variety [via ComingSoon] says actor Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) has entered talks to join Sam Worthington in the police thriller Man on a Ledge for Summit Entertainment.

Based on a script by Pablo Fenjves, the story involves a former NYPD officer, played by Worthington, who threatens to jump to his death, and a female psychologist.

I’m thinking Mackie won’t play the female psychologist.

Deadline had a new bit regarding grown-up Billy Elliot (actor Jamie Bell). He’ll also have a role in the crime drama directed by Asger Leth, of the documentary Ghosts of Cite Soleil previously.

The article further expands on the story’s premise: Worthington plays a cop thrown in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. Let out for his father’s funeral, he escapes and ends up on a hotel ledge threatening to kill himself.

Bell will play his brother, who happens to be planning a heist of a jewelry store across the street while the cop threatens suicide. Mackie would play the disgraced cop’s ex-partner.

The big unknown is who is to be cast in the role of the female psychiatrist. Rumor has it that Amy Adams is interested.
