BJ Penn vs. Matt Hughes rumored for UFC 123 in November

News

Ariel Helwani of AOL reported on his twitter page today that BJ Penn and Matt Hughes have agreed to a Welterweight bout November 20th in Auburn Hills, Michigan on the undercard of UFC 123 which is being headlined by Lyoto Machida and Rampage Jackson. The fight would be the third between them and would serve as a rubber match. Their first match occurred at UFC 46 and saw Penn taking the Welterweight title from Hughes. Two years later, at UFC 63, Hughes won himself redemption by claiming a TKO victory over Penn, defending his Welterweight title in the process.

Hughes is coming into the fight riding a three fight winning streak most recently steamrolling Ricardo Almeida at UFC 117 with a first round submission. Penn, conversely, has lost his last two fights, both of which were to Frankie Edgar and for the Lightweight title.

UFC has yet to make the match official.
