Peter Jackson’s The Frighteners Haunts Blu-ray this October

Disc Announcements, News

It seems The Frighteners, previously released on HD-DVD, is being prepped for an October Blu-ray release. A listing at Columbia House has named Lord of the Ring director Peter Jackson’s horror comedy as being available to own on Blu-ray October 26.

The classic film stars Michael J. Fox, Chi McBride and Jeffrey Combs. The release will contain Peter Jackson’s director’s cut. At this time it is not know if the disc will be widely available or exclusive to Columbia House. Special Features, specs and pricing is also unknown. The HD-DVD came with with an audio commentary by Jackson and a four and a half (!) hour long documentary about the making of the film.

If you haven’t seen The Frighteners lately, you owe it to yourself to check the film out. Originally developed as a Tales from the Crypt movie, The Frighteners stands on its own as an under-appreciated classic. Plus, it’s always nice (if a bit sad) to see Michael J. Fox at his prime.
