Dragon Gate USA and Evolve Booker Gabe Sapolsky Comments on Success of ECW, ROH, and Mid-South

Here’s what Gabe had to say:

“ECW was the perfect example of a booker/visionary completely understanding an audience and the need of that audience while at the same time knowing how to work with the strengths and weaknesses of the available talent,” said Gabe Sapolsky, who learned booking under Heyman. “I think an ECW-type promotion could happen during any period of time, with tweaks, for a booker/visionary that has those understandings. I think Bill Watts proved that with Mid-South/UWF in the ’80s. I think we captured, on a much smaller level, some of that in the early ROH stuff in the first half of this decade, probably 2002 to 2005 or 2006. I don’t think anyone else has done it in recent years. ECW was about a vibe and filling a need to a specific audience. This could be done in any time period as long as the creative forces have the understanding on how to create that vibe and how to fill that need for an audience. That is why we are trying something different now with DGUSA and especially EVOLVE.”
