Wladimir Klitschko may next defend against Derek Chisora

Wladimir Klitschko may yet defend his IBF and WBO World Titles against a British heavyweight in 2010, with his advisor Shelly Finkel talking with veteran British promoter Frank Warren about the British and Commonwealth Champion Derek Chisora facing the Number One Heavyweight in the World on December 11th in Germany. Chisora is an unbeaten young prospect having impressed in his most recent fight against Sam Sexton that was broadcast on German Television due to being on a bill co-promoted with Sauerland. Talking to Steve Bunce on BBC Radio, Frank Warren didn’t seem overly keen for Chisora to face Klitschko but said that the fighter himself is up for the fight.

For Klitschko its very much the case of the champion running out of options, with the other high profile fighters in the division already booked in winter matches or having already lost to him or his brother. It would help the build to a 2011 clash with WBA Champion David Haye by further exposing Klitschko to the UK audience and removing a possible future domestic opponent for Haye. For Chisora the fight would represent a significant step up in quality but it would work into Warren’s plans to do a big event for his 30th Anniversary as a promoter. Indeed it would open up the possibility of a three-site Sky Box Office PPV between his already planned London show, Chisora-Klitschko in Germany and the Las Vegas showdown between Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana.
