Emma Stone and Mia Wasikowska As Mary Jane and Gwen Stacey in Spider-Man Reboot?

Casting News, News, Rumors

According to io9, Emma Stone (Easy A and Zombieland) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) have been working with director Marc Webb on readings and screen tests. Rumor has it that the two will play Mary Jane and Gwen Stacey, respectively, in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. This new rumor conflicts with a previous one stating that Mary Jane would not be featured in the new movie. However, as i09 points out, she technically will not appear as the love interest in the movie, so the possibility for her character appearing may still be alive and well.

The Pulse: I haven’t seen the new Alice in Wonderland (or The Kids Are All Right for that matter) so I can’t speak about Wasikowska, but I do loves me some Emma Stone. She’s funny, smart, and tough–all the qualities of a good Mary Jane. If she does play MJ, this might mean that the movie will follow the comics a bit more closely given that Gwen was Peter’s first love. He didn’t start dating MJ until after the Green Goblin killed Stacey by knocking her off the George Washington Bridge.

So what do you think? If true, are these smart casting choices? Let us know.
