10 Thoughts Review on Ultimate Spider-Man #14 by Brian Michael Bendis and Davis Lafuente

10 Thoughts, Reviews

1. Brian Michael Bendis and David Lafuente bring their Chameleon arc to a close. Does Bendis really destroy Peter’s life with Chameleon knowing all his secrets or will Spidey take steps he will come to regret?
1. Chameleon figuring out Peter’s life has been wildly amusing, and this issue him figuring out The Human Torch and Iceman are the two kids living with Spidey is hilarious.
1. The Torch almost believing it might be Peter is a good nod. While he knows Parker better, when someone with his face and powers is committing crimes, it has got to be at least disconcerting.
1. Lady Chameleon trying to get Parker’s secrets, not knowing he really doesn’t have too many huge ones that her brother hasn’t already sussed out, makes a lot of sense given all the huge events he’s been involved in. Of course, she’s small time, so all this cleverness would really sign is her death warrant, but hey… it’s the thought.
1. I really like that Torch and Iceman could follow Chameleon and not be spotted. They’ve been doing this for years and, again, these guys are good, but amateurs to the hero game.
1. Spidey sending the Chameleon to SHEILD for incarceration is great. I was wondering how they’d get around Cham knowing Peter was Spidey, and this makes perfect sense.
1. The lasting, logical issue here is that the barely survived Jameson knows Parker is Spider-Man. Ultimate JJJ is a much more reasonable fellow, but he can’t be pleased.
1. David Lafuente is a budding superstar artist. His art here is just fluid and the storytelling is great.
1. Apparently Gwen is quite upset with Peter about all of this, but I utterly do not get why.
1. Rating: 7/10 – The wrap to this arc was both satisfying and effective in setting up future stories. Ultimate Spider-Man remains the best Bendis and best Spider-book on the shelves consistently.
