2010 Fall TV Premiere Week: 10 Thoughts On…The Whole Truth Review

10 Thoughts, Reviews, Shows

Yes, this is ANOTHER law show. This one was probably doomed for the start. At the last second, it switched one of its main stars. Originally, Maura Tierney was supposed to be NBC’s Parenthood, but then she found out she had cancer so she had to drop out. Then, she got the chance to join the cast of ABC’s The Whole Truth later after supposedly Joely Richardson decided to leave the show to spend time with her family. But again this is still a law show.

Here is the synopsis of The Whole Truth straight from ABC:

“With a unique alternative narrative structure that chronicles the way a case is built from the perspectives of both the defense and prosecution, “The Whole Truth” shows each side equally and keeps its audience guessing, shifting allegiances of guilt or innocence until the very final scene. Kathryn Peale (Tierney), the product of a New England background and a sheriff father, is a deputy bureau chief in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. Jimmy Brogan (Rob Morrow, “Numb3rs”), born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen and a friend of Kathryn’s since their days at Yale Law School, is one of New York’s rising criminal attorney stars. These two evenly matched legal masters will square off each week as the central characters of the series.”

My First 10 Thoughts on the “Pilot” Episode of The Whole Truth:

1. Just another law show.

2. It does present all sides of the law equally, which is somewhat interesting.

3. Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney are good in their respective roles.

4. Tierney still got the bad break having to drop out of NBC’s Parenthood, which has made it to a second
season already.

5. The case in the pilot wasn’t really that interesting.

6. It is somewhat unique to have two friends away from the courtroom fight it out in the courtyard.

7. Is it just me or was it obvious to everyone else that before the end of the season, Morrow’s character and
Tierney’s character will be dating?

8. Not in the best time slot against two other law shows.

9. Morrow and Tierney have less chemistry together than James Belushi and Jerry O’Connell.

10. I don’t see this show lasting more than a season, and it probably won’t even make it that long. Could easily be one of the first new shows to be cancelled this year.

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
