Amir Khan Possible For Floyd Mayweather Jr In Future

News

Golden Boy Promotions is hinting at a potential Floyd Mayweather Jr-Amir Khan matchup, according to a Sky Sports report. This would all take a backseat, however, to a Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao matchup. Mayweather-Khan is a backup plan, but a lot of things need to be sorted out in the meantime.

First, Floyd Mayweather Jr has to sort out his criminal charges or the only fight he will have on his hands will be in a courtroom.

Second, Amir Khan would not only need to get by Marcos Maidana in December, but also a light welterweight unification bout against the winner of Tim Bradley and Devon Alexander. Golden Boy thinks winning both bouts would set up Khan as a viable contender for Mayweather Jr. There are a lot of “ifs” and “buts” in this scenario and looking this far ahead is silly, especially in the world of boxing.

Third, the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would have to fall apart for a third time before Mayweather-Khan negotiations could begin. It’s a fight that needs to be made and if balked upon once again, the boxing public may not be so keen on any replacement bout involving anyone else.
