NHL News: Philadelphia Flyers Goalie Michael Leighton Out One Month

News

Leighton carried the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals last season and was looking forward to getting a full season as a starter.

The Flyers announced that goalie Michael Leighton will miss one month with a bulging disc in his neck. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said Leighton will not need surgery and will be fine with rest and rehab.

Discs in the next are the pouches of fluid that seperate the vertabrae in the neck and allow movement between the vertabrae. There are many ways a disc can become bulged and the Flyers didn’t announce how Leighton injured his.
