K-1 World World and Max Grand Prixs Quarter-Finals Announced

News

The quarter-finals of the biggest tournament in combat sports have been announced, with the following matchups making up the opening round of the K-1 World Grand Prix Finals, which will take place on December 11th in Toyoko, Japan:

Peter Aerts vs. Mighty Mo
Semmy Schilt vs. Kyotaro
Gokhan Saki vs. Daniel Ghita
Alistair Overeem vs. Tyrone Spong

The tournaments brackets pave the way for the Grand Prix to be decided in a rematch of last year’s final, with the winners of Aerts vs. Mo will face Schilt or Kyotaro while Overeem will be favored to defeat Spong and either Saki or Ghita. The possibility of an Aerts vs. Schilt semi-final is fascinating given that ‘Mr K-1’ is trying to equal the dutchman’s record haul of four World Grand Prix titles. Aerts is also one of only three men to hold a victory over Schilt in K-1.

Also announced are the tournament brackets for the K-1 Max Finals, which shall take place on November 8th also from Toyoko, Japan. The quarter-finals of that tournament are:

Mike Zambidis vs. Yuichiro Nagashima
Albert Kraus vs. Giorgio Petrosyan
Gago Drago vs. Mohammed Khamal
Michal Glogowski vs. Yoshihiro Sato
