MLB News: Minnesota Twins 1B Justin Morneau Will Miss Entire Postseason

News

There had been optimism that he could return for the ALCS or World Series, but the Twins will hold him out.

The Minnesota Twins announced Monday that All-Star first baseman Justin Morneau would not play in any round of the postseason, regardless of how far the team makes it.

The Twins, Morneau, and team doctors talked it over and came to the conclussion that trying to rush Morneau back within a week or two after missing the entire second half of the season would not be in Morneau’s best interest for long term health.

“In talks with Justin and our doctors and everybody, we have made the decision that to try to get him ready to play in the ALCS or the World Series in the matter of two weeks is accelerating the process too quickly,” Twins GM Bill Smith said.

Morneau was hitting .345 with 18 HRs when he was injured sliding into second base and getting kneed in the head by Jays second baseman John McDonald.
