The St. Louis Cardinals exercised a one-year $16 million option on Albert Pujols contract ensuring he’ll spend at least one more summer in St. Louis.
Pujols led the National League in home runs and RBIs and tied for the team lead with a .312 batting average. He also passed the 400 career homerun mark this season.
The Cardinals and Pujols are expected to begin negotiating a long term contract this summer, a contract that is expected to make Pujols among the highest paid players in the game.
