Mike Babcock has been succesful in Detroit and has now been extended for his efforts.

The Red Wings and coach Mike Babcock have agreed to a four-year contract extension through the 2014-15 season.

Babcock has been coaching the Red Wings for the last six seasons and led the team to a Stanley Cup championship in 2008 and led them back next season.

“His stock as a head coach is probably as high as anybody’s and he could’ve gone on the open market next summer,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told The Associated Press. “We started talking about it in June and July, went our separate ways, and we knew this would get done. He loves it in Detroit.”
