Amy Adams, Rashida Jones, Chris Cooper Join The Muppets

THR and EW are reporting that The Muppets, the new muppets movie formally rumored to be titled The Greatest Muppets Movie Ever Made, has added three to its cast list — Amy Adams, Rashida Jones and Chris Cooper. Now that is what I call good news.

Written by Forgetting Sarah Marshall writer Jason Segel and and Get Him To The Greek director Nicholas Stoller, the film will be directed by Flight of the Conchords co-creator James Bobin. In addition to writing, Segel will also star.

Amy Adams will play Segel’s girlfriend, who joins him on a trip to Los Angeles to visit the Muppet Studios. Chris Cooper will play the film’s villain.

Previous reports have stated that the new film will feature a storyline that finds the Muppets putting on one last show after oil is discovered under Muppet Theater and an evil oil tycoon threatens to buy the location. Kinda sounds like the plot of the A Prairie Home Companion film if you ask me.

Regardless, it’s always exciting to hear new details about the upcoming film — a project I grow more and more excited about with every new YouTube video released by Muppets Studio. The current guardians of the felt-clothed characters seem to have a good grasp on the Muppets — let’s hope that the viral videos’ playful yet topical tone carries over to the new movie.
