Lucian Bute Beats Jesse Brinkley In Nine

IBF Super Middleweight champion Lucian Bute retained his title with a 9th round KO of Jesse Brinkley in Montreal.

After a cautious couple of rounds to start the fight, Lucian Bute (27-0, 22 KOs) put Brinkley down in the 5th with a left to the body. Jesse Brinkley (35-6, 22 KOs) appeared hurt but bought extra time by spitting out his mouthpiece and needing his glove retaped.

Brinkley was bleeding from his nose and left eye in the 8th. He was dropped by a left uppercut and in danger of the fight being stopped but he pleaded for one more round. Bute dropped Brinkley with a left uppercut in the 9th, ending the fight.

In a light heavyweight undercard fight, Adrian Diaconu defeated Omar Sheika by unanimous decision. Sheika scored a second round knockdown but lost by scores of 98-91, 97-92, 98-92.
