According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis, who worked with director James Cameron on his script for the mega blockbuster Avatar, is reuniting with the director on Fantastic Voyage where she has been hired for rewrites. James Cameron is producing the film for 20th Century Fox with his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau.

The original 1966 movie revolves around a team of scientists who are shrunk down and injected into the body of a sick scientist to save his life. The project has been in long-development with earlier screenplays written by Shane Salerno (Armageddon) and Cormac and Marianne Wibberly (National Treasure, G-Force). At one point director Paul Greengrass had been slated to direct the 3D project.

The article also reports that Kalogridis is also working on a script for a live-action remake of the Ghost in the Shell anime for DreamWorks, and Nine Lives for Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney.
