Roland Emmerich Scaling Down His Next Alien Invasion Movie

News, Projects

Roland Emmerich and Michael Bay are neck and neck when it comes to destruction in movies. The world is their sandbox and they’re free to do what they want. Blow up the White House? Sure, why not. Have a bunch of robots wage war on Earth? You betcha. But Emmerich is like Irwin Allen when it comes to his movies. 2012 is like every Allen film rolled into one and with more destruction than you can imagine.

Emmerich, already a master of the tentpole with the alien invasion movie Independence Day, is quietly making a new alien invasion. Titled The Zone, the movie will follow the likes of Cloverfield and other “found footage” movies, where the footage appears to be genuine and found after the invasion has taken place.

According to Heat Vision, the film will have a cast of relative unknowns and have a budget of only $5 million.
