The People’s Column: Random WWE and TNA Thoughts

Columns, Top Story

Wow. It’s been quite a while since I’ve written anything. To my loyal readers who check here often, I’m sorry. It’s been a hectic week and I just haven’t felt like writing about wrestling. On the plus side, I have a lot of ground to cover in my weekly random thoughts.

– The biggest news story in wrestling this week happened at a UFC PPV between a performer not under WWE contract and one that would be taken out for injury the next evening. What does this say about wrestling today?

– Brock Lensar would draw a pretty big butyrate for WWE, but I doubt it would be the million plus buys that he does for UFC.

– Is there a bigger Wrestlemania opponent for Undertaker though?

– I would still love to see Undertaker vs Sheamus this year and then see John Cena vs Undertaker next year when Undertaker is going for win #20.

– Speaking of Undertaker vs Sheamus, I was disappointed to see that Undertaker has been pulled from house show lineups, since that match was scheduled to take place at a December 5th house show I’m attending.

– Was seeing Daniel Bryan vs Dolph Ziggler three times in one week overkill? Yes. Were there better matches on WWE TV this week? No.

– I have to wonder what the current plan with Dolph Ziggler is. It looks like the plan is to move into a Dolph vs Referees story. I’m worried, since referees can’t wrestle and therefore will not draw buys or money.

– The opening segment of Monday’s Raw was one of the worst that I believe I’ve seen. There was too much going on, including seeing the tag titles change hands.

– As much as I enjoy the idea of The Nexus having the Tag Team Championships, who can beat them for those titles? There are hardly any tag teams left.

– Is it a concern that the story of the WWE Championship match is more important than the actual match? John Cena is an important character, but should he be more important than the championship?

– I said this in my 10 Thoughts on Pulse Wrestling, but I must repeat myself. Why is Santino getting a pin over Sheamus?

– I get wanting to set up a program between Sheamus and Morrison, but why use Santino to do so? Why not use the knockout ending that they used for Sheamus and Daniel Bryan?

– Speaking of Knockouts, women’s wrestling in TNA is not in good shape.

– Women’s wrestling anywhere on the national scene is not in good shape.

– I’m currently torn on wether TNA bringing the concussion issue into the forefront, in a storyline motivated by a true-life concussion is a great idea or tasteless. I’d appreciate all of your thoughts on this.

– No matter what it is, Jeff Hardy should not be allowed to swing a chair anymore since he is far too careless in the ring.

– Will Matt Morgan get over as a babyface, or will he flounder after just one PPV main event?

– It is far too soon to be pulling guys out of the Immortal/Fortune faction. Taking Douglas Williams and Matt Morgan out of this faction significantly weakens them.

– Was Fortune allowed to look tough against anyone aside from EV2.0, who are a washed up group just riding the nostalgia wave to paychecks?

– The addition of two new Nexus members definitely makes the group look tougher, but do the wrestlers in the group really need to keep their silly NXT names?

– WWE held their “Fan Appreciation” event this weekend. All in all, it looked like a really fun card. The biggest story to come out of it was Triple H’s appearance. When do you think we will see Triple H returning to Raw full time?

– Could The Game actually be the man to face Undertaker at Wrestlemania? He could go after vengeance on behalf of Shawn Michaels and draw memories of that program out for another year.

– I purchased Smackdown vs Raw 2011 this week (which also took time away from writing about wrestling) and was surprised to find that I actually have missed Triple H being around as I saw him in a Road to Wrestlemania storyline.

– Will Triple H make the heel turn most people believe he wants this year?

– I recently read that Chris Jericho may be back in WWE around the holidays. The sooner the best in the world at what he does is back, the better.

– What will happen to the push of The Miz with these two major players back in action? Hopefully he will still be allowed to be a dominant heel in WWE.

– Smackdown vs Raw 2011 is tons of fun by the way. It could only be better if there were three Miz’s on the cover.

– Will Wade Barrett still be a lead heel around Wrestlemania time? I believe he will be, but is more likely to be used in a role similar to Sheamus last year. He won’t main event, but he will face a major player.

– Who has had the more impressive rookie year, Sheamus or Wade Barrett?

– I’m looking forward to voting on Tuesday, and would also like to encourage all of you to do so. I’m also looking forward to not seeing anymore political ads for a while.

– Will WWE try something crazy after the election on Tuesday? Is it even worth trying something when Monday Night Football is still on?

– I do not believe it is a coincidence that WWE does both their best business and tells their best stories beginning in January. They know that there are more eyes on their product without the NFL to compete against.

– I’m actually a little bit excited about the three hour Raw episodes that we’re going to see this year. The “Legends” night should be a fun nostalgia trip. The Slammy’s can’t possibly be as bad as last year’s. The King of the Ring returning is the most exciting, and I’ll have a blog up about that this week.

– Edge is gunning for the World Heavyweight Championship and I couldn’t be happier about it. Hopefully he wins it and we are finished seeing Kane in PPV main events.

– It was refreshing to see someone as new as Alberto del Rio in the Smackdown #1 contenders match. This should be a sign that he is in this slot for the long term.

– What is happening to Kaval on Friday nights? He deserves much better.

That’s all for me this week folks! Thanks for reading and I’m sure that I’ll have more to say this week.
