Desperate Housewives – Episode 7-6 Review

Reviews, Shows, Top Story

Welcome everyone and happy Halloween! There is nothing like a Sunday filled with ghosts, masks and soft porn actresses getting blackmailed. We get to witness all of the above in the sixth episode of the show’s seventh season.

Spoiler-free zone:
Having already seen Halloween on Wisteria Lane, I was hoping not to get a repetitive feel from the episode. In short, I didn’t. Apart from the “new neighbour throws Halloween party” the episode’s pacing is quite different than season four’s Halloween episode. Equally entertaining and eventful, but different.

Spoiler zone:

Susan’s story had the biggest emphasis this week seeing as it interacted with Paul’s storyline. Her attempt to get revenge failed miserably but her costume was awesome and so was her attack on Paul. Teri Hatcher’s performance was at its best here. Her storyline was ok so far in the season, but this week it got really juicy. As far as Paul’s part of the story is concerned, I am now, more than ever, sure that Beth is Felicia’s daughter (or at least some sort of acquaintance). I think it will be revealed in the next few episodes. So far though, I’m enjoying how the mystery is playing out. Paul is more sinister than ever and Beth is an incredibly intriguing character (and some of that credit belongs to the actress that plays her).

Lynette’s segment also got quite interesting. Like I said last week, Alzheimer’s is a pretty delicate subject matter, so I’m happy that they gave it the weight it needed without being over the top. Tom’s denial in the episode really got to me. I don’t know if the storyline will continue but this week showed some terrific performances, so it would be nice to revisit that. Plus it’s nice to see Lynette in a family environment…it’s her thing!

Bree’s storyline was once again entertaining this week. While it started out light, it ended up being a bit moving. I like Bree and Keith together. They are entire opposites and they sort of meet in the middle and make their relationship work. It’s always nice when they reference older episodes, so I liked Bee mentioning her “passing out on the lawn” incident. This is the most relaxed Bree has ever been and it’s nice to look back on how her character has slowly changed over the years.

In Gaby’s part of the episode, tension started building up between Juanita and Grace. While I think Gaby is being way too stubborn and careless, can you blame her for wanting to bond with Grace? It’s good to see character’s weak points every now and then, so I’m pleased with the direction this is heading.

So, that’s it for now. I decided to do a little extra something this week, so below I created a list where I grade everyone’s outfits from one to five. Hope you found the episode as refreshing as I did.

Costume grades:

Susan: 3/5 (cute)

Juanita and Celia: 4/5 (more little girls should dress like them)

Keith: 1/5 (there are dead people that put more effort than that)

MJ: 3.5/5 (he gets an extra half a point for saying “Me want candy! Ug!”)

Bree: 4/5 (hot and as non-Bree as it gets)

Renee: 5/5 (glamorous and ever so bubbly)

Lynette: 2.5/5 (average)

Lee: 5/5 (glamorous and ever so bubbly)
