Lionsgate Picks up Dredd and Properties Starring Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson

News, Projects

After the success of The Expendables (over $250 million worldwide!), it looks like Lionsgate has gone into the ass-kicking business. The studio has picked up the U.S. distribution rights of three properties by IM Global.

The first title that will be released is Safe, written and directed by Boaz Yakin and starring Jason Statham.

Dredd begins production on November 12 in Cape Town, South Africa. Directed by Pete Travis, the $45 million 3D project is an adaptation of the comic series “Judge Dredd.” The film stars Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby.

A March production start is planned for Protection, which is to be directed by Simon West and star Dwayne Johnson. The film will shoot in New Mexico.
