Friday Morning Backlash on Why John Cena Must Turn Heel at Survivor Series 2010

Jake Ziegler, master of the review, as seen through his excellent A2Z Analysiz, joins us today to go over why John Cena must turn heel at Survivor Series.

John Cena should, nay, must turn heel at the upcoming Survivor Series.

The WWE’s franchise player has been a babyface since late 2003, which is almost seven years. Hulk Hogan’s first major run was from January 1984 – April 1992, and that was in the days of four pay-per-views a year. Cena’s run as a top babyface has been criticized by many, but in many ways has been successful, mostly due to the fact that he is a great ambassador and spokesperson for the company.

However, all good things must come to an end; and with Randy Orton now the most over babyface on Raw the time is now for Cena to turn to the Dark Side. The current storyline with the Nexus has seen Cena forced to act like a heel while maintaining his babyface character. If this storyline is to continue, the next logical step is to go all the way and turn Cena heel.

At the Survivor Series, Wade Barrett will challenge Randy Orton for the WWE Title, with Cena as the special referee. If Barrett wins the title, Cena will be relieved of his Nexus duties, and if Barrett loses, Cena will be fired. Obviously Cena will not get fired, so it seems that Barrett will walk out with the title. Relieving Cena of his duties would be a very anticlimactic end to the storyline, so I see it playing out with Cena screwing Orton (after all, it is Survivor Series) and fully joining the Nexus.

Turning Cena heel will give Raw another top heel (along with Barrett, Sheamus, and the emerging Miz), and creates the opportunity for fresh matchups, as well as the chance for babyfaces like John Morrison, Daniel Bryan, and R-Truth to step up, as well as clear space for Triple H’s inevitable return. This could also clear the way for Cena to potentially challenge the Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania, which could be a real money match.

I can see that the time is now for John Cena to turn heel.
