The one possible barrier to British and Commonwealth Champion Dereck Chisora challenging Wiladimir Klitschko the WBO/IBF World Heavyweight Titles has been removed with the announcement that Chisora will not be going to jail. He was however found guility of assaulting his then-girlfriend, and sentence to carry out 150hours of community service, pay $2,400 in compensation plus additional costs. He also recieved a 12-week suspended jail sentence.
Chisora, who has a previous conviction for assualt, was told by Magistrate Quentin Purdy “Your behavior on May 28 was disgraceful and downright humiliating…You clearly have a problem with violence and that has got to stop or your career will be over”.
Philip Moy, who represents Chisora, said his client could face further sanctions as he now has to appear before the British Boxing Board of Control. Chisora (14-0) takes on Klitschko on Dec. 11 in Mannheim, Germany.
