Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber, the writers of last summer’s 500 Days of Summer, have been tapped to write the theatrical adaptation of the upcoming novel Rosaline for director Shawn Levy.
The novel by Rebecca Serle tells the classic story Romeo and Juliet from the point-of-view of Rosaline, Romeo’s once girlfriend who he dumps after meeting Juliet. The story will reset Shakespeare’s play in a contemporary American high school.
If done right, this movie could be a great teen comedy on par with this year’s Easy A, which took some inspiration from The Scarlet Letter. If done poorly, we could have another Pink Panther 2 (a film in which Neustadter and Weber previously wrote for Levy) on our hands.
