Jose Aldo Injured, Out of UFC 125

It was announced Tuesday afternoon that the newly crowned UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo will not be able to participate in his next title defense which was scheduled for January 1 against Josh Grispi.

Aldo suffered an undisclosed injury during training for the fight and now the UFC is left to once against find a co-main event for the New Year’s Day card. Originally it was scheduled to be Roy Nelson vs. Shane Carwin until Carwin withdrew due to a back injury.

Aldo officially became the UFC Featherweight champion on Saturday at a ceremony in Auburn Hills, MI. It is part of the ongoing merge between the two Zuffa brands, UFC and WEC. He won the title in November of 2009 against Mike Brown and has defended it twice since against Urijah Faber and Manny Gamburyan.
