Considering that Burn Notice is a big ratings getter for the USA Network, it was inevitable that a movie would be the next logical step. But the movie that has been greenlit is not for theatrical release, it isn’t even a standalone episode with extra money behind it. It’s a movie prequel starring Bruce Campbell.
The star of Burn Notice, Jeffrey Donovan, will be directing, giving Campbell his cues on where to stand, how to act, etc. This would be Donovan’s second time he’s sat in the director’s chair for the hit series. He also directed the third episode of the fourth season, “Made Men.”
Helping Donovan will be creator Matt Nix. The two will be executive producers on the project.
Shooting is slated to begin in January on location in Bogota, Columbia.
According to Deadline, the movie will be set in late 2005 and focuses on Sam Axe’s (Campbell) last mission as a Navy SEAL. It begins after a faction of Colombian rebels makes trouble for the locally stationed military platoon, with Lieutenant Commander Axe being sent down to investigate. As the mission unfolds, Sam begins to uncover the dark secrets of the area, learning the truth about sacrifice, deception, and ultimately what’s worth fighting for.
