10 Thoughts on TNA iMPACT! 12.02.2010 – Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Ric Flair

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

I would like to thank Matthew and INSIDE PULSE for the opportunity to share my weekly thoughts with you all.

I’ll be reviewing the 12/2/10 episode of
TNA. So let’s get right to it.

10 Thoughts on TNA Impact

Line of the Night(s) LON: Taz regarding Kazarian-

“I almost want to date the guy he’s so good looking.”

Never thought I’d hear the former Human Suplex Machine say that.

Ric Flair-“Who from England can ever beat an American at anything?”

Good Stuff there.

1. I thought for sure Matt Morgan was falling into the trap Immortal set. To consider the ref who already screwed you over would be asinine. Then AJ Styles interrupted him from picking Douglas Williams which could have been intentional. But then set up perfectly was the return of Mr. Anderson. I like how Jeff Hardy teased another back of the head chair shot to bring back the returning asshole. Anderson’s Hardy impression was great. Nice choice of guest referee and solid in ring promo by Mr. Anderson.

LON: Taz in regards to Mickie James’ top coming off-

“…(Mickie) having a little bit of a wardrobe malfunction. That’s not exactly a bad thing.”

2. Anyone who just tuned in to TNA a few weeks back would have no clue who the big musclehead is in the UK Tour video. But then again, maybe that’s the point. He may have only appealed to English fans. Rob Terry is already a footnote in TNA history. Classic example of too much too soon.

3. At first I thought Douglas Williams looked like Diamond Dallas Page, but I think I can do that one better. He now looks like an older version of Eric Young. Speaking of look-a-likes, Kazarian bears resemblance to Scott Hall. Especially with the slicked back hair. Of course, a shorter, younger version of Scott Hall/Razor Ramon. In all seriousness, Kazarian and Douglas Williams had another solid match. Match of the Night ending in another Rolling Chaos Theory. If you haven’t seen this move, tune into TNA. It’s waistlock set up by Williams into both wrestlers rolling backwards into a somersault once while Sir Douglas still hangs onto the waistlock set up elevated into a German Suplex pin combination with a bridge.

4. I think TNA handled the Team 3D face off very well. Devon is getting cheered. Ray is getting booed. The Taz interruption was a nice touch, too. All things considered, TNA is getting life out of this feud and it’s helping extend the careers of both men. It’s compelling enough to keep this going.

5.  For two guys who were tearing into each other last week, to have them even in a tense exchange without someone in between them is a little hard to believe. Joe and Pope were maybe a tad too reserved even with the tense exchange.

6. In honor of comedic legend Leslie Nielsen’s passing, the Tara vs. Mickie brawl drew shades of the two girl scouts fighting each other in the bar from Airplane(The Movie). They just never stop.

7.  For someone supposedly without a contract, Rhino was sure booked to look strong. Not only did he make Morgan bleed right away, he was saved from a pinfall loss by Fortune. We’ll see how TNA handles him after his match with RVD Sunday. It should not be a shame to lose to the #1 Contender(Morgan) to make him look strong.

8.  The only thing better than Sarita’s strut is seeing her get a win. Though I am disappointed she didn’t get any in ring work after having such a stellar match last week. At least TNA is booking her strong as it is well deserved. She just needs some mic time to talk.

9. Speaking of mic time, it was great to see Jay Lethal finally getting some. He was very strong in his segment opposite the grating duo of Cookie and Robbie E. Nice post brawl to set up wanting to see Jay get revenge on the Shore posers. Why Christy got involved is anybody’s guess, but I’m still under the impression she is no longer wrestling after her last injury. Evidently that excludes cat fights, praise the Lord.

LON: Taz to Tenay during Main Event-“Most tag team partners hate each other’s guts to be honest with you.”

Tenay-“Looks like that’s coming from personal experience.”

10.  It may have been just me, but it just seemed like the segments were out of place in the structure of importance to TNA and the flow of the show. Especially the Main Event storyline not being last. Although they did attempt to correct that after Kurt Angle’s return by giving Jeff Hardy final comments. That being said, I give Jeff Jarrett credit for embracing the MMA gimmick, even wrestling barefoot. The Main Event match had a few moments, like the Pope vs Double J mat exchange and nod to Pope’s boxing background to start the match as well as the tension between Joe and Pope. Kurt Angle appearing is always a welcome sight. This time he appeared out of the casket behind Double J and Abyss. Although the non-conclusive finishes to the main events are occurring a little too frequently for my liking.

Match of the Night:  Kazarian vs. Douglas Williams. Great finish and hard work between these two once again. Also sets up the storyline of Doug having Kaz’s number. Great blend of mat wrestling and incredible athleticism between the two of them. AJ vs. Doug should also be a good match up this Sunday. Which leads to…

Picks for this Sunday

1. World Title Match

Jeff Hardy (c)  vs. Matt Morgan with Mr. Anderson as the Special Ref.

Pick: Jeff Hardy, still too much momentum

2. Full Metal Mayhem Tag Team Championship

Motor City Machine Guns (c) vs. Generation Me

Pick: Generation Me. Originally picked the Guns, but I think a win for Gen Me here should be huge and the Guns are established as THE tag team right now. That being said, a switch of roles here would be good for this feud. While MMG vs. Beer Money again would be great, TNA needs another tag team to feud with Beer Money first. World’s Greatest Tag Team(Haas & Benjamin), anyone? In case you were wondering, Full Metal Mayhem is basically Tables, Ladders and Chairs(TLC).Should be a helluva spectacle

3. Television Championship

AJ Styles (c) vs. Douglas Williams

Pick: AJ

4. X-Division Championship Cookie suspended in a Shark Cage (loaned by Shark Boy according to Taz)

Robbie E © w/ Cookie vs. Jay Lethal

Pick: Lethal

Needs to save face and unless a new member of Shore debuts, no excuse not to win this one unless Cookie drops hair spray from the cage to Robbie E.

5. Submission Match

Jeff Jarrett vs. Samoa Joe

Pick: Joe. Needs this win. Somehow Angle has to be involved, probably to save Joe from Gunner and Murphy.

6. First Blood Match

Rhino vs. Rob Van Dam

Pick: RVD. Rhino could be in line for a push and beating RVD without pinning him isn’t as bad, but still. RVD should be in line to face Jeff Hardy. Not sure how long they are planning to save that match up.

7. Beer Money vs. Ink, Inc.

Pick: Beer Money. The Brohawks got a pinfall in the 4-way, so Beer Money should get restitution here.

8. Casket Match

Abyss vs. The Pope

Pick: The Pope

9. Falls Count Anywhere

Mickie James vs Tara

Pick: Mickie James, so the feud can end and have her move on to Madison.

That is All.
