Burn Notice – Episode 4-15 Review

Reviews, Shows, Top Story

My name is Michael Westen. I used to be a spy. Until… Well fans, it’s been 2 weeks since the last episode and now we’re down to 3 episodes left this season. Remember now, we get 1 episode next week, and then the final 2 episodes will be shown together the following week as a 2 part season finale. 2 weeks, 3 episodes, and then we all have to wait until summer for season 5 and probably late spring or early summer for the DVD of season 4.

Last night’s episode had several story lines going. Story line number 1 was Sam and Jesse taking off to the Dominican Republic for the auctioning off of the information contained in Simon’s Bible. Story line 2 focused on Michael and Fiona in Miami helping Nate and a couple friends of his get back a stolen car that belonged to a drug dealer. Story line 3, while not a prevalent, was the revealing that Nate and his wife are expecting a baby!

In the DR, Jesse approaches the Justin Walsh, the seller of the data from Simon’s Bible, and finds out that the information is kept moving at all times. In order to do this, Jesse and Sam deduce that they are using motorbikes to do this. After paying off a lot of locals to keep records of all motorbikes they see, they gather the data, crunch it, and determine which bikes carry it. They plot an ambush place, but will need Michael and Fi there to help. After wrapping up their case, Michael and Fi head to the DR to help Sam and Jesse steal the data. In the end, they obviously succeed. The only question is what to do with the data.

In Miami, Nate arrives to help out a couple friends who run a car garage and had 3 cars stolen. One of them belongs to a heroin dealer named Hector Rivera. The brothers needed money, so they loaned a couple cars out to be used. Michael resumes a former cover named Johnny and goes to see another former character named Tony Soto, who is in the car stealing business. In the end, Michael, Nate, and Fi find that Hector’s right hand man, Caleb stole the car and the drugs that were hidden inside. He was going to blame it on the brothers and get them killed. In the end, we have to assume that Rivera killed Caleb.

In this episode we find out that Nate and his wife are expecting a baby. Nate doesn’t get the chance to tell Michael himself…Maddy spoils that for him when she tells Michael to make sure that nothing happens to Nate. She wants grandkids and she figures Michael isn’t the wife and whit picket fence type. After resolving the Taylor brothers dilemma, Nate offers Michael part of the money he got, but Michael tells him to keep it for the baby. After reminding Nate that there were 2 times when Nate saved Michael, he tells Nate that if his child turns out like him, Michael will be a proud uncle. Nate tells him it would be nice if his child has a cousin to play with some day.

As with every episode of Burn Notice, I thoroughly enjoyed last night’s episode. I enjoyed seeing the Johnny persona brought back, as well as the Tony Soto character. The burning question is what will the team do with the data they got. The team pretty much agreed that it’s up to Michael, since the names in the data were the ones responsible for his burning and confinement to Miami.

I know that Jay Karnes will be returning as Brennan in episode 17, which will be part 1 of the 2 hour season finale.

Over the second half of the season I noticed something odd. It seems that Michael is no longer carrying his weapon of choice. For 3.5 seasons, Michael has carried a Sig Sauer P228, and he has made countless references to it. Over the past 3 episodes, he has apparently changed to a different weapon. I know that most people don’t care about things like this, but I notice little nuances like this. In last night’s episode, Michael states that when resuming a former cover ID, every little detail is important, including the weapon you carry. But he isn’t carrying the same weapon now as when he first dealt with Tony Soto. Obviously Tony Soto didn’t notice!

As I said before. We’re down to the last 3 episodes of season 4. Episode 16 will air next week, while episodes 17 and 18 will air the following week from 9-11PM I believe. Then we have to wait until summer 2011 for season 5. We also have to wait until late spring or early summer for the DVD release of season 4. I’m in no hurry for time to fly that much, but I (as always) will be adding season 4 to my Burn Notice DVD collection.

That’s it for me this week people. See you next week as we continue on with the team’s mission to unravel the mysteries of Simon’s Bible and the names it contains.
