Desperate Housewives – Episode 7-9 Review

Reviews, Shows, Top Story

Hey everyone! A breath away from the mid-season finale, season 7 really starts heating things up in this ninth episode.

Spoiler-free zone:

Being the second to last episode before the Christmas break, most storylines don’t really progress. While most elements of the episode are fillers, the ending really picks things up and provides a more than great setting for the anticipated finale.

Spoiler zone:

The storyline that stood out the most was obviously Paul’s plan reveal (despite the episode not having Beth involved this week). I never read articles that talk about future storylines so it really took me by surprise. The only thing I could say at that very last scene, where the entire street turns against each other, is “oh my! That guy sure knows how to hold a grudge”. I know that the next episode is written by series creator, Marc Cherry, so the outcome is probably going to be quite something.

Moving on, Gaby’s storyline was resolved (in a way) this week. Gaby’s struggle in approaching her biological daughter could only go for so long. Yes, the ending was indeed bitter but that was the most plausible outcome that could result from whole situation. Eva Longoria really showcased both her comedic and dramatic skills once again. Her Mexican-immigrant act was probably the funniest part of the episode.

Susan didn’t have a story of her own this week but she sure sparked some drama. It’s nice that she got to spend some one on one time with Renee and obviously this will initiate a main plotline for the rest of the season. Now about Renee and Tom: I still feel the need to find out more about what exactly happen. I mean, was it all the way? Was it a long, long time ago (I know Renee said 20 years but maybe stuff happened after that)? And most importantly, what stage was Lynette’s and Tom’s relationship at, during that time?

Bree’s storyline didn’t do much this week. Like I said above, many parts of the episode were set ups to what is about to happen so while things look promising, we will still have to wait another week. I still don’t see Bree and Keith having a future so drama is bound to happen; especially now that Keith’s father has butted in.

Lynette I enjoyed a lot this week. Yes, there have been many Tom/Lynette authority fights throughout the entire show but this did have a sense of truth to it. It wasn’t drama made out of nothing. In fact, I think it’s a positive thing that, the healthiest couple on the Lane, is having the most fights. Felicity Huffman had some great acting moments in the very beginning and very end of the episode and it really shows how effortless it is for her to fit into Lynette’s shoes.

To sum up, with one episode left, episode 9 slowed things down but did, nonetheless, prepare us for, what seems to be, a fast pacing action-packed mid-season ending.  See you next week for the final review of 2010!
