And you thought the series had ended when it reached world’s end. That’s right – Captain Jack is back. Walt Disney is sparing no expense at making sure they have our full attention with this first trailer. Over at Yahoo! the House that Mickey Mouse built unveiled the teaser for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment in the mega-popular pirating adventure series. Gore Verbinkski, who directed the previous three, isn’t in the director’s chair this time around, but Rob Marshall of Chicago fame and Nine infamy is.

Johnny Depp reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow as does Geoffrey Rush. New to the series is Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, Stephen Graham, Judi Dench and Gemma Ward. While I was personally became bored with At World’s End (aside from the great shot where Cutler Beckett ‘s ship is being destroyed around him), but the trailer does look like fun. Plus no Orlando Bloom!

Jack Sparrow (Depp) and Barbossa (Rush) embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth hinted at the end of At World’s End, only to learn that Blackbeard (McShane) and his daughter are after it, too.

The screenplay is once again handled by franchise regulars Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio and is based on Tim Powers’ book “On Stranger Tides.” Walt Disney Pictures is bringing Pirates of the Caribbean 4 to theaters in 3D starting on May 20, 2011.
