Features

Beyond the action inside the ring, lays a deeper story that catches the interest of fans around the world. Let’s take a closer look at the biggest stories that qualified for our Story of the Year award. The nominees are:

Story of the Year

Edwin Valero Takes Own Life In Jail
Pacquiao-Mayweather Failed Negotiations
Floyd Mayweather Jr Dominates Shane Mosley
Inuries Plague Super Six
Bad Matchmaking Sours Year

Edwin Valero was a terror inside the ring and unfortunately had a lot of demons outside the ring. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr failed to make what would have been the biggest fight of the year, yet when he did fight, Mayweather dominated a top ten pound-for-pound guy in Shane Mosley. The Super Six World Boxing Classic had a rocky 2010 as injuries caused a big shakeup in the tournament. Finally, the year was riddled with bad matchmaking and seemed to be the theme of 2010.

And the winner is…

Pacquiao-Mayweather Failed Negotiations

The most talked-about story in boxing this year was undoubtedly the potential superfight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Boxing fans heard far more about contract negotiations than anyone should ever be subjected to and there was no payoff in 2010. Now doubts linger as to whether the fight will ever be made at all. One thing is clear if the two finally do meet, they will likely earn Story of the Year once again.
