2010 Most Disappointing Fight Of The Year

Features

End of the Year awards generally focus on recognizing the best of the best. While that has been the focus so far, let’s take a look at some the fights of 2010 that left a sour taste in our mouths. The nominees for Most Disappointing Fight of the Year are:

Most Disappointing Fight of the Year

Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones Jr 2
Danny Green vs Paul Briggs
David Haye vs Audley Harrison
Shane Mosley vs Sergio Mora
Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Ricardo Cordoba

Bernard Hopkins finally got his wish at a rematch with Roy Jones Jr but unfortunately the listless return bout came at least ten years too late. Briggs appeared to take a dive against Green. Harrison barely managed to throw a punch in three rounds against David Haye. Shane Mosley is rarely in a dull fight but his draw against Sergio Mora was just that. Guillermo Rigondeaux has loads of potential but he stunk up the ring against Cordoba.

And the loser is…

David Haye vs Audley Harrison

Audley Harrison had an unfortunate resurgence in 2010. Unfortunate in that it led to the sham that was David Haye vs Audley Harrison. Harrison failed to throw a meaningul punch, and this is a boxing match after all. Audley Harrison is no Willie Pep. The travesty ended in the third round when David Haye, largely inactive himself, finally decided to take a swing at his opponent. And down went Harrison. For someone that is talking as if he’s a top heavyweight, David Haye should never have been in the ring with Audley Harrison.
