Dana White Changes Mind, Makes Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard III

News

UFC President Dana White has performed an odd u-turn on the future of the UFC Lightweight Title. Despite sending out UFC Vice President Vice President Craig Borsari to announce that WEC Champion Anthony Pettis would face Frankie Edgar in the planned unification match, White told various media outlets that he had changed his mind and that Gray Maynard would get the instant rematch that both fighters wanted.

Talking to Yahoo Sports, White explained “I hate to talk about what we’re going to do with future fights at a press conference when a card has just ended….I had the whole Pettis thing with the belt on my mind and so I said, ‘Yeah, Pettis gets the next shot.’ But then when I thought about it more, how can I in good conscience not give that shot to Gray Maynard? It’s a no-brainer. He came in there and he fought his ass off and he deserves that rematch. That was a great fight and they deserve to do it again”.

On his Wrestling Observer Radio Show (£), Dave Meltzer said that he does not expect Anthony Pettis to sit out and wait for the title shot.
