With Wrestlemania just around the corner, it’s time to put on my prediction hat and see how I expect the show to shape up. I’m expecting Undertaker to not make it back in time for this year’s event, so the show is built without him. Here’s the card:
WWE Title Match: The Miz vs. John Cena vs. CM Punk – The idea here is that Cena has to face Nexus after some form or fashion. That feud can effectively blow off here if Cena gets the title beating Punk, or they could keep the belt on the Miz and keep the Nexus feud going. Part of me expects Orton in this match as well, but unless WWE wants to hearken back to Wrestlemania 16 and do an elimination match, I’d hope not. Cena should get his belt back finally here and send the fans home happy.
World Heavyweight Title Match: Edge vs. Wade Barrett – With Barrett headed to Smackdown, this is really the only thing that makes sense. Wade has proven he can be a top of the card heel, and Edge needs one of those to face. Part of me even expects Wade to win the Rumble to get this shot, though a better bet is obviously an Elimination Chamber win. This is also a great way to reward Barrett for being top heel all year, as he can win and be a very different heel champion than on Smackdown.
Sheamus vs. Triple H – Since Sheamus took H out, everyone assumes H will be back for revenge. Well, this is the match to do for that and the perfect time to do it. Triple H being Triple H, he’d win, but should lose.
Alberto Del Rio vs. Randy Orton – We usually get one big interbrand match and this one fits the bill. Del Rio will be on Raw more often, as reported earlier, so Orton makes sense as the guy to kick his ass back to Smackdown, as he’s getting tired in the title picture anyway and it’s a great way to elevate Del Rio, even though he’d have to lose.
Divas Title: Beth Phoenix vs. Natalya – I’m not sure if I’m expecting this or just hoping for it, but a hard hitting, face vs. face match like this would be the absolute perfect place for Awesome Kong to show up and destroy both.
Money in the Bank: John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston vs. R-Truth vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Ted Dibiase vs. Jack Swagger – Let’s take them one-by-one. Morrison is impressive with ladders and will be a favorite to win given his recent brush with the title scene and feud with Miz. Ziggler is going to get a similar brush with Edge, so he’ll be another favorite. Bryan has history with the Miz and is a huge fan favorite. Kofi is there for great spots and they are enamored with Truth for some reason or another, so he gets to be on the card. Rey adds star power and someone the marks can expect to win. Dibiase can blow off his heat with Maryse here and turn face, while Swagger won last year and has to be in it. I’d expect Morrison to win, but would root hard for Bryan.
Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes – We need some filler matches and these two have an issue that has long been stewing. I hope the slow boil leads to Kelly Kelly falling for the Dashing one and Drew facing Cody at Wrestlemania, although I rather expect these two will just make MitB oversized. They can do a miniature version of the Jericho-Trish-Christian here and I expect they will.
Big Show vs. Kane – Kane will lose to Undertaker again at Wrestlemania if Taker’s ready, as the story demands it, but Big Show works as a placeholder here if Taker is hurt. I fully expect this to be Kane’s retirement and for him to go out in loss.
Unified Tag Team Titles: Santino and Vladimir Koslov vs. Nexus – The way Otunga is being pushed, I fully expect him to be one member of the Nexus team and to team with Justin Gabriel. They should win here, but will lose in comedy, likely involving the return of the legends, to get revenge on Nexus.
So, that’s my Wrestlemania card. What do you think?
