Patricio “Pitbull” Named 7th Participant in Next Bellator Featherweight Tournament

The man who was seconds away from defeating Joe Warren to win Bellator’s season 2 Featherweight tournament will be entering the upcoming bracket in an effort to earn a rematch. Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (14-1) was today named by Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney as the newest participant in the next Featherweight tournament which is slated to begin in March on MTV2. Freire, who last fought in that dramatic loss to Warren back in June, will be joining his brother Patricky Pitbull during the season who is signed to take part in the Lightweight tournament.

Freire, a native of Brazil, built up a name for himself in his homeland by establishing a 12-0 record for himself before Bellator snagged him for their season 2 tournament. Once in North America he looked most  impressive racking up a submission victory over William Romero at Bellator 15 and a unanimous decision over Wilson Reis at Bellator 18 moving himself up to 14-0 before his bout with current Bellator Featherweight champ Joe Warren.

Season 4 of Bellator begins on March 5th and will feature eight man tournaments in the Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight and Light Heavyweight divisions. Joining Freire in his bracket will be Zac George, Georgi Karakhanyan, Kenny Foster, Eric Larkin, Wilson Reis, and Daniel Straus.
