Cameron Diaz, Colin Firth To Star In Coen Brothers-Scripted Gambit

Casting News, News

Deadline is reporting that Cameron Diaz has been cast opposite Colin Firth in the upcoming remake of British heist film Gambit. The Last Station director Michael Hoffman is filming from a script by Joel and Ethan Coen. The original film starred Michael Cain and Shirley MacLaine. The film will shoot in London this May.

In Gambit, Firth will play a London art curator who, in a con involving a fake Monet painting, enlists the help of a Texas steer roper to be played by Diaz. The Coens are currently coming off a lot of buzz from the critical and commercial success of True Grit. This may explain why the project is just now picking up steam after being in development for years — including a period where Doug Limen was at one time tapped to direct the film.
