Spoiler Warnings: Young Heroes In And Out Of Love

Spoilers

With last weeks Teen Titans #91, writer J.T. Krul decided to go against the grain and shake up a piece of established status quo from the past few years. That being that even though Superboy was dead for a few years, and the whole Robin/Wonder Girl incident happened, they were the couple of the Titans. Not unlike Dick and Kori, or Gar and Raven, or even Roy and Donna. The Titans always have a couple on their roster, and started with Young Justice and then finally getting the trigger pulled during Geoff Johns Teen Titans, Conner and Cassie were the Teen Titans couple of the last decade.

Were, past tense, as in not current. Conner dumped her in the most recent issue so that she could just lead the team and he could have a life that isn’t just Superboy and Wonder Girl. There’s love there, but it was most definitely not a two way breakup, and we can fully expect Cassie to go “teenage girl” on the whole situation. We can also expect Kon to pick up something along the way, as this now sets up the preview Krul had in his first issue which showed Cassie seeing Kon and another girl. Well hey, at least now it isn’t cheating!

So let’s hear it for Superboy and Wonder Girl, they had a good run, and no doubt they’ll have another one in the future. But in the meantime, Superboy no longer has a solo book where he has actions based around a relationship in another title. That’s always a plus.
