How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders Joins The Avengers

Casting News, News

Actress Cobie Smulders, of CBS’s hit show How I met Your Mother, has been tapped for the role of Maria Hill in the upcoming Avengers movie by Joss Whedon according to Variety. With filming of the movie set to begin just after HImyM goes on summer hiatus, her schedule will be cleared up without risk of delay.

Smulders joins a very male-heavy cast, with her and Scarlet Johansson being the only real women in the movie (alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson. and Mark Ruffalo),  so her presence will likely be a very welcome one.

The character of Maria Hill was created by Brian Michael Bendis several years ago and wound up becoming Nick Fury’s replacement as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. when he went under ground. While no longer in control of the group, Hill has kept herself busy as she spent time working with Tony Stark to bring down Norman Osborn, and currently is the liaison to the Avengers. If anything, having her in the movie as opposed to another superhero will probably be a nice bit of a balance, and hey, she gets to work with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Nothing wrong with that at all.
