Boxing Rankings – Feb 2011

News

The weather outside is cold, but these boxers are on fire. Here is my list of the top ten pound-for-pound boxers in the world.

Inside Fights Pound-for-Pound Rankings

1. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Last Month: 1
His talents in the ring are unquestioned. But lately he’s shown no interest in taking another fight.

2. Manny Pacquiao
Last Month: 2
Manny may reclaim his top spot just by being active. A good showing against Shane Mosley in May ought to do the trick.

3. Juan Manuel Marquez
Last Month: 3
Turns out Marquez may not be fighting Erik Morales in April after all. Good news for fans as just about any top contender would make for a better fight.

4. Sergio Martinez
Last Month: 4
The 2010 Fighter of the Year will defend his middleweight title in March against undefeated Sergei Dzinziruk. Martinez truly belongs amongst boxing’s elite.

5. Bernard Hopkins
Last Month: 5
Hopkins proved age is only a number as he outboxed the younger champion, Jean Pascal, in December. The rematch is already being set up for May 21.

6. Wladimir Klitschko
Last Month: 6
With the David Haye fight off (again), Wladimir has set his sights on Dereck Chisora (again). Wladimir and Chisora will fight in Germany on April 30.

7. Timothy Bradley
Last Month: 8
Despite the nature surrounding the conclusion of the bout, Bradley was decisively ahead of Devon Alexander when their January bout went to the scorecards early.

8. Andre Ward
Last Month: 7
The Super Six has been Ward’s coming out party and his next bout will pit him against early favorite Arthur Abraham in the semifinals.

9. Paul Williams
Last Month: 9
Not much has been heard from Paul Williams since his KO loss to Sergio Martinez. He needs a confidence builder to get his momentum back.

10. Vitali Klitschko
Last Month: 10
Vitali has his next fight scheduled for March against undefeated Olympic Gold Medalist Odlanier Solis. Not a lot of quality options out there so it’s at least nice to see something fresh.
