Hayemaker Wins Purse Bid For James DeGale vs. George Groves

News

Commonwealth Champion George Groves’ promoter Hayemaker won the purse bids for the long anticipated title unification match against British Champion James DeGale with a high bid of £400,000 ($650,000) submitted by their head of boxing Dave Coldwell. This defeated bids submitted by DeGale’s promoter Frank Warren and strangely Hayemaker’s own Adam Booth. The fight is ordered for the end of April although as yet Hayemaker has no television deal or venue in place for what has been a much talked about grudge match between the two former amateur standouts. This is another reverse for Frank Warren who recently lost out in the purse bids for Matthew Macklin vs. Darren Baker to Hennessy Sports and John Simpson vs Stephan Smith to Frank Maloney. There has been talk that DeGale will challenge WBA Regular Champion Dimitri Sartison and it certainly would be consistent with Warren pulling Matthew Macklin from the European Title Match after losing the promotional rights.
