NFL: Latest On Peyton Manning Contract Talks

News

Colts’ GM Bill Polian says that talks with Peyton Manning are “progressing”. Polian insists that nothing is “imminent” despite owner Jim Irsay’s recent claim that he’s already offered Manning a contract that will eclipse the 4-year, $72M contract given to Tom Brady this season. The Colts have already taken the step of franchising Manning to retain exclusive rights. Should Manning play this season under the franchise tag (and the franchise tag doesn’t change under the new CBA), he would make about $23M next season.

Interesting strategy to attempt to re-sign Manning to a huge deal before knowing what the new cap will look like, but considering Bill Polian’s clout on the competition committee, it’s probably going to work out.
