New Picture of Red Skull for Captain America: The First Avenger

So this summer we have four superhero movies to look forward to. Three are Marvel Comics properties (Thor, X-Men: First Class and Captain America: The First Avenger) and one lone DC Comics entry (Green Lantern). Of the teasers and Super Bowl ads we’ve seen so far, the one that looks the most promising is Matthew Vaughn’s flashback to the early days of The X-Men. Runner-up would be Joe Johnston’s Captain America and this is despite not seeing much footage. Perhaps the reason why this writer is drawn to both films is because of the eras in which they are set. As the trailer for First Class illustrates, it takes place around the time of the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. With the Captain America superhero we get to see him as this punny Army cadet who becomes a Super Soldier in the 1940s.

EW (via The Playlist) has unveiled a new photo of Red Skull, an arch-villain of Caps. Though from the look of him he looks more like Jim Carrey’s Mask character in The Mask but with a red face instead of a green one. Yet, that’s not Jim Carrey’s mug below. it’s Hugo Weaving, a guy who knows his way around of playing a villain.

If you’ve seen the Super Bowl ad, then you have some early impressions on how the film will look. But you can guarantee that the first theatrical trailer, which should arrive sometime in April or in front of Thor this May, will have everyone glued. Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan and Stanley Tucci, Captain America will be spreading the colors red, white and blue on July 22, 2011.
