Strikeforce To Now Use The Unified Rules Of Mixed Martial Arts

News

At today’s conference call on the UFC-Strikeforce deal it was confirmed that Strikeforce would from now on follow the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. The main change from the organization’s previous ruleset is the introduction of elbow strikes on the ground. Strikeforce had adopted the Japanese practice of banning them in the belief that they are a ‘cheap’ way to cut an opponent and so lead to messy fights. This is an early example of Zuffa bringing its new promotion into line with its current standards.

A Comics Nexus original, Will Cooling has written about comics since 2004 despite the best efforts of the industry to kill his love of the medium. He now spends much of his time over at Inside Fights where he gets to see muscle-bound men beat each up without retcons and summer crossovers.
