Last night at Manhattan Mayhem IV, Eddie Edwards made history by dethroning Roderick Strong to become the new ROH World Champion. It was Edwards first title shot and he made the most of it, as he was able to tie Strong up in a roll-up pin from an Achilles Lock. The feat of winning the ROH championship with a first title shot is not unprecedented. Back in 2002, Xavier defeated Low Ki to become champion at the very first Unscripted event. In 2007, Takeshi Morishima became the first non-American to win the ROH Championship by defeating Homicide at Fifth Year Festival: Philly. The previous night, when he made his debut with the company, Morishima lost to Samoa Joe.

Eddie Edwards’ first title defense will be against Christopher Daniels during WrestleMania XXVII weekend at Honor Takes Center Stage. The stakes are definitely raised as the two rekindle a feud. They previously clashed over the ROH TV Championship and most recently had a 2/3 Falls Match at the 9th Anniversary Show.
